Newcastle vs Manchester City team news: Eddie Howe makes 10 changes

EDDIE Howe has made 10 changes to his Newcastle United team for the Carabao Cup third round tie against Manchester City – with goalkeeper Nick Pope the only survivor from the team that started against Sheffield United last time out.

Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall both make their full Newcastle debuts, while 17-year-old Lewis Miley is making his first competitive start. There’s a major fitness boost for the Magpies, with Joelinton returning to the side.

Livramento will play at right-back, with Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett and Matt Targett making up the backline. Hall looks set to play in midfield alongside Sandro Tonali and Miley, with Jacob Murphy and Joelinton playing off Alexander Isak. Callum Wilson is absent from the squad.

PSG give injury update on Kylian Mbappe ahead of Champions League trip to Newcastle United

Kylian Mbappe was forced off on Sunday as PSG won 4-0 against Marseille.

The PSG star man picking up an ankle injury and limping off in the first half.

PSG have confirmed that the France international has picked up what they describe as a ‘small ankle sprain’.

Still not joining in with group training. On Wednesday, Kylian Mbappe instead doing work indoors on his own.

It remains to be seen just how ‘small’ or not Mbappe’s injury proves to be.

PSG have an away game at Clermont on Saturday in Ligue 1, then is the big match at St James’ Park a week away today, on Wednesday 4 October

Eddie Howe did not hesitate to ring the changes for Newcastle United’s third round tie against last season’s treble winners Manchester City.

With Burnley and Paris Saint-Germain on the horizon at St James’ Park, Howe was keen to rest some weary legs after Newcastle’s last three games against Brentford, AC Milan and Sheffield United. Yet squad rotation in this competition splits opinion on Tyneside with many deeming the Carabao Cup as the best chance of silverware.

For 17-year-old Miley it was his first start at senior level and his reward for impressing in the last 12 months. Joelinton – back from a knee injury – and Alexander Isak led the line for the Magpies against City. Howe still had the likes of Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron in reserve

Man City named the likes of Jack Grealish, Kalvin Phillips and Matteo Kovacic in their opening line-up and Erling Haaland and Phil Foden were on the bench.
