Arsenal take international free agent on trial as player Arteta no longer trusts is cleared to leave
Mikel Arteta wants to sign Danish goalkeeper Lucas Martin for Arsenal
Mikel Arteta wants to sign Lucas Martin for Arsenal
Arsenal are making plans for the exit of Aaron Ramsdale this summer by taking a young international goalkeeper – who is available as a free agent – on trial as a potential replacement as David Raya’s understudy.
The three-times capped England international has endured a miserable season at Emirates Stadium, having lost his place as Arsenal‘s No 1 to summer signing Raya, who now looks set to finalise a permanent move from loan club, Brentford. And with Ramsdale restricted to just 11 appearances across all competitions this season, the 25-year-old is reportedly keen to move on in an effort to kickstart his career.
Indeed, Ramsdale was actually open to the possibility of moving on in the January window had the opportunity arisen, but despite losing the trust of Mikel Arteta, the Gunners boss was not willing to consider his sale unless a hefty offer arrived on the table. As a result, the possibility of a loan exit was swiftly taken off the table.

However, with the summer window fast approaching, rumours are gathering pace that Ramsdale will once again be allowed to leave Emirates Stadium, with the likes of Chelsea and potentially Newcastle likely to be in the market for a new goalkeeper.
To that end, Arsenal reportedly value Ramsdale at around £40m; a hefty wedge of cash for a player who has effectively become a bench-warmer.
Nonetheless, the Gunners are reportedly drafting up plans for life after Ramsdale by drawing up a five-man shortlist of potential successors, with a Manchester United icon among those reportedly under consideration.
Looking to the future, however, Arsenal are now reported to have also taken a young international star on trial with a view to a permanent deal.
Arsenal take Denmark goalkeeper on trial
According to Tipsbladet, the player in question, Lucas Martin, has been on trial with both the Gunners and Paris Saint-Germain in recent days as he looks to tie down his future.
The youngter is a free agent having left FC Nordsjaelland earlier this year and has been training with Lyngby Boldklub to maintain his fitness. They are keen to secure the 17-year-old Denmark U18 international on a permanent deal, though that plan has been scuppered by the double interest from the two Champions League quarter-finalists.
As it stands, Martin – rated as one of his country’s brighest young talents – is swaying towards a move overseas and it’s reported he will now make a straight choice between signing for either Arsenal or the French giants.
Both sides are willing to offer the player a minimum two-year deal and give him the chance to establish himself within their respected first-team squads.
As a result, his coach for Denmark Under-18s Lasse Stensgaard is keen for the player to nail down his future, explaining why the goalkeeper is one to watch in the future.
“He’s a real winner and he will do everything he can to win,” Stensgaard told Tipsbladet.
“He trains insanely well and gives it his all on the pitch, and that also means that he takes the lead in that part when we play the games. He sets a standard that we are here because we have to win and not just play the game.”
Arteta impressed with young Denmark international
“In the last couple of years, he has improved his saves so that he’s also a decisive player and can take some balls, so he’s not just primarily good with his feet, but also good at what is actually in the job description.”
It’s not just Stensgaard who has been impressed, however, with the player also seemingly impressing Arteta during his trial at London Colney to the extent where the Gunners are willing to offer him a deal.
At just 17, he’s probably not considered first-team worthy at this stage, but if he accepts the offer, would be given the chance to prove himself a capable understudy to Raya in the years ahead and a player who is very much in the same mould of goalkeepers as the four-times capped Spain internatonal.
In the meantime, the potential exit of Ramsdale would leave Arsenal hunting for a new No 2, with the Gunners looking to make a big profit on their initial £20m investment from Sheffield United.

David Moyes shares his deep regret at West Ham missing out on Aston Villa star

Damien Charles Lucas
In a rare lowering of his guard on transfers David Moyes has shared his deep regret at West Ham missing out on an Aston Villa star.
Aston Villa are looking to not only emulate West Ham but go one better this season.
Like Aston Villa are now, the Hammers have been pushing the Premier League elite in three of the last four seasons.
And the Hammers have tasted glory by winning the Europa Conference League.
That’s something Aston Villa are also looking to replicate this season.
West Ham are knocking on the door for a fourth successive season of European football.
And Villa are having a phenomenal season under Unai Emery. The Villans sit fourth in the Premier League on 59 points – three places and 14 points above West Ham.
Moyes admits staggering reason he’s reluctant to sign a striker https://t.co/zAz8T1IgO3

MORE WEST HAM STORIES
West Ham a striker light for Champions League push
They are on course to qualify for the Champions League – just as West Ham were at this stage in both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.
Indeed the Hammers finished agonisingly short of the top four by a solitary win in 2021.
On paper West Ham and Villa both have an excellent first XI but not a great deal of strength in depth.
It’s difficult to say whether signing a striker would have made the difference for West Ham between their current position and a top five push this season.
But there is a nagging sense that the right one certainly would have. And that West Ham might be where Villa are right now had they pushed to find a successor to ageing Michail Antonio.
Well it seems they very nearly did only for him to end up at Villa Park.
Now David Moyes has shared his deep regret at West Ham missing out on Aston Villa star.

Moyes shares deep regret at missing out on Villa star
The manager was asked why he has not found an heir to 34-year-old Antonio as he plays his 300th game for West Ham.
Moyes says he has tried and his biggest regret on that front is not getting Ollie Watkins.
West Ham fans who follow the transfer windows closely may remember the Hammers were linked with Watkins before he signed for Villa and again when Steven Gerrard was in charge.
It’s hard to know what to believe when it comes to transfer gossip.
But the Scot has conceded England striker Watkins was one that got away for the Hammers.
“We’ve tried for years to find people that we believed might be right,” Moyes told the press on Friday, as reported by The Evening Standard.
“If you look back over the last two or three years at the number of centre-forwards named (as targets) that might be coming here, there might be quite a lot of them that have failed and they wouldn’t have been any good.
‘We’ve missed out on ones we would’ve liked’
“We’ve missed out on ones we would’ve like when you look back, maybe Ollie Watkins, people like that. But it’s a journey, sometimes you get it right and sometimes you don’t.”
It’s not the first time Moyes has highlighted that he wanted Watkins at West Ham.
After a 4-1 defeat to Villa earlier this season – a game in which Watkins scored – Moyes made mention of the fact.
“Yeah, we did (make a move for Watkins) when he was at Brentford,” Moyes said in his post-match presser – as reported by Birmingham World.
“He scored a good goal today.”
Watkins up front in this Hammers side is a mouthwatering prospect
Just imagine this West Ham side with Watkins leading the line instead of Antonio.
With Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen around him. A mouthwatering prospect which might’ve been.
As great a servant as Antonio has been, Watkins would have taken West Ham’s play to a completely different – and ruthless – level.
West Ham have surrendered 14 points in the last three months alone from games they should have won or drawn.
So it’s not unreasonable at all to suggest having a Watkins would have propelled the Hammers up into challenging for the Champions League.

Virgil van Dijk shares stage with Calvin Harris for “crazy” birthday celebrations
July 9, 2023
Joanna Durkan
Virgil van Dijk turned 32 on Saturday and he celebrated in grand fashion alongside DJ Calvin Harris in Ibiza – a birthday bash he won’t soon forget.
Liverpool’s linchpin in defence is now the fourth-oldest member of Jurgen Klopp‘s squad, but he will be the first to tell you he has plenty of years left in his legs.
After an inconsistent season, like the majority of his Liverpool team-mates, Van Dijk has seized the opportunity the summer break provided and days before returning for pre-season, he had one final celebration.
It included Ibiza, Kevin De Bruyne and an invitation to the stage during Calvin Harris’ set – as ways to celebrate birthday No. 32, you could ask for few better.
The Dutchman was visibly delighted and overwhelmed by his introduction onto the stage on Friday night, saying it was “crazy” – and you can’t blame him.
The Liverpool squad have formed quite the bond with Harris since he acted as DJ for the trophy parade in 2022, with Harvey Elliott also pictured with him during the summer.
Van Dijk’s birthday celebrations come just days before his return for pre-season on Tuesday, where he will be joined by his fellow international team-mates after being handed an extra three days off.
Liverpool’s No. 4 will first undergo a number of fitness tests, including the lactate test, before the squad turn their attention to their Germany training camp.
From Tuesday on, Klopp should be without only Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott after their U21 Euro triumph and the manager will have 33 days before he takes his team to Stamford Bridge for the league opener.

Michael Edwards ‘In Utter Disbelief’ After Liverpool Defeat
BY
MATT SMITH
PUBLISHED 56 MINUTES AGO
Michael Edwards was spotted in the crowd during the Manchester United versus Liverpool game as he watched on in disbelief.
HIGHLIGHTS
Liverpool’s new CEO Edwards watched in disbelief as Manchester United United beat them in FA Cup.
Despite the disappointment, Edwards remains focused on Liverpool’s overall success.
Edwards rejected the Manchester club and was spotted in conversation with Sir Dave Brailsford.
Liverpool’s new CEO of football Michael Edwards was spotted in the crowd at Old Trafford as Jurgen Klopp’s men were defeated by Manchester United, and he could only look on in disbelief.
The Reds were knocked out of the FA Cup in extra time as Erik ten Hag’s side secured a late victory thanks to a goal from Amad Diallo. Edwards was watching on in the crowd as everything fell apart for the Merseyside club.
Edwards Spotted in Crowd at Old Trafford
Liverpool Chief Watches on in Disbelief
Liverpool supporters would have been expecting a victory at Old Trafford with United struggling to produce consistent performances this season. Klopp’s side were leading for the majority of the second half, but a late goal from Antony saw the game go to extra-time.
Harvey Elliot struck after 90 minutes and it looked as though Liverpool would be heading into the semi-final, but goals from Marcus Rashford and Diallo in the final few minutes earned the victory for United. According to the Guardian, new Liverpool CEO of football Edwards was spotted in the crowd at Old Trafford in conversation with Sir Dave Brailsford, who is an adviser to Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Edwards reportedly watched on in ‘utter disbelief’ and gave a ‘resigned smile’ as he tried to work out how the Merseyside outfit didn’t win the game.

The report also mentions that Edwards rejected the opportunity to join the Manchester club, so it would have been interesting to hear the conversations taking place between the Southampton-born chief and Brailsford in the stands at Old Trafford. Edwards won’t be too concerned when it comes to looking at the bigger picture, with Liverpool having already won the Carabao Cup, competing for the league title, and into the latter stages of the Europa League.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Against Manchester United, Liverpool conceded four goals for the first time this season in all competitions.

Liverpool Going Down Multi-Club Route
Journalist Ben Jacobs has recently told GIVEMESPORT that Edwards will help lead the acquisition of a second club for FSG as they look to go down a multi-club model. Edwards is set to take on a role which will be more than just the day-to-day running of Liverpool, with Richard Hughes coming in as a sporting director.
The Reds are certainly going down a different path, with supporters hoping it’s just as successful as their time under Klopp. The German manager was given a lot of control during his time in charge, but the Merseyside club are now going in a different direction.

Michael Edwards saw 30-year-old Liverpool star really struggle vs Man Utd, he could be replaced
Mon 18 March 2024 11:00
Bence Bocsak
This was not a game for Liverpool to remember at Old Trafford. In Jurgen Klopp’s time there have been so many memorable games against Manchester United for Liverpool. However, this FA Cup defeat is one the Reds will want to forget.
Despite having control in the game, taking the lead twice, and creating plenty of chances, Liverpool never really played well in this match. The Reds never looked like they were going to run away victorious. And in the end, left United back into the game with some poor errors and individual mistakes.
One man in particular really struggled and was even substituted off by Jurgen Klopp. A man who may have shown signs this season that he needs to be replaced. Watching on from the stands, Michael Edwards may also have now seen those signs first hand.

Andy Robertson could soon be replaced at Liverpool
As we wrote about Michael Edwards was spotted at Old Trafford watching the game on from the stands. The former Liverpool director officially returned to FSG last week to oversee the club’s football operations. That role will involve being in charge of Liverpool again, in addition to another potential club FSG will be looking to purchase in the near future.
Edwards will assume his position in June but already behind the scenes Liverpool will be hard at work preparing for the summer transfer window ahead. With Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of the season the club will need to find a new manager.
But above all, there will be important changes that need to be made in the make-up of the squad. Some of the club’s players are not getting any younger, and it may be time for Liverpool to think about replacing them.
One of those could be Andy Robertson. He has turned 30-years-old this season, has two years left on his contract and has made just one goal and one assist in 20 matches for Liverpool in all competitions so far.
Once again against United, Robertson didn’t look like his former self and struggled to get into the game. If he continues on this trajectory, than it may be time for Liverpool to consider finding a suitable replacement for the club legend. Unfortunately, football doesn’t stop for anyone and no player is eternal. The same will apply to Robertson.

Liverpool should sign 19-year-old Harvey Elliott loves, he’s already trained with the club

Liverpool have always been very proactive in signing the best talents in youth football. That’s something that is likely only going to increase in FSG and Michael Edwards’ latest chapter, as the club’s owners embark on a multi-club model.
It’s a move that will only see pathways to Liverpool improve and the club bring in more exciting talent. Players who may have been dissuaded from joining the club becomes the route to Liverpool’s first team in the past.
One of the advantages of having another club outside of England, is not only the offer of regular first team football but also the advantages of more favourable work-permits. Something that could help in attracting more exciting young talent to the club.
Including an exciting 19-year-old talent, who has already been on Liverpool’s radar. And was even invited on a trial at the club.

Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty has been on Liverpool’s radar
Two years ago, 19-year-old Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty spent a trial with Liverpool. At the time, he was even endorsed by Harvey Elliott, who urged him to sign for the club on social media (Liverpool ECHO).
However, a move never materialised for the Canadian teenager. Instead, Marshall-Rutty has remained in his homeland with boyhood club Toronto FC. That decision has definitely paid off. At a young age he has been able to accumulate a lot of minutes in a competitive environment in the MLS.
He has also shown himself to be a really versatile player. Last season he played as a left-back, right-back, central midfielder and as a winger in the MLS. Described by former MLS player Ali Curtis as an ‘incredibly talented’ young man (Times Colonist), Marshall-Rutty’s experience in so many roles has definitely made him grow as a player.
MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
The new MLS season has only just started recently, but he is already starting to show that he is about to take his game to the next level. Last weekend, he scored his first MLS goal in just his third appearance and produced a fantastic performance against New York City.
The youngster has the kind of profile Liverpool admire. It’s clear he is an exciting prospect and the kind of prospect Liverpool should now be looking to bring in to use in FSG’s new prospective club. Marshall-Rutty could be the first signing of a new era heralded by Michael Edwards.

Ex-Liverpool players feel club have got good fee for Philippe Coutinho

Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho is off to Barcelona
Sun 7 Jan 2018 at 04:31
Former Liverpool stars felt their old club had done decent business in netting £142million for Barcelona-bound Philippe Coutinho.
A deal was agreed on Saturday for the Brazilian, who had made clear his desire to move to the Nou Camp back in July when the Reds turned down a £118million bid from Barca.
The fee is a British record and makes Coutinho the second most expensive footballer in history after his compatriot Neymar.
Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson questioned the logic behind making the move mid-season, given Coutinho will be ineligible for Barca in the Champions League.
“It’s hard to get my head around what Philippe is going to gain because he can’t play Champions League football for them, they are running away with the league, and he’s got the World Cup at the end of the season,” Thompson sai
