The German club drew 2-2 with the Gunners in the first leg at Emirates Stadium this week.

That was followed by a 2-0 victory at home to Koln in the Bundesliga, with Raphael Guerreiro and Thomas Muller getting on the scoresheet.

However, Thomas Tuchel is set to be without an important player as result of an injury that was sustained against Koln.

The news will be a source of frustration for Tuchel as Bayern look to finish strongly in what has been a challenging campaign.

Tuchel will be without Kingsley Coman for the second leg against Arsenal due to an adductor muscle issue.

The winger, who featured as a substitute in the first leg against the Gunners, had to be replaced in the 50th minute against Koln.

He told Sky; ‘The big downside to the whole game is the injury to Kingsley Coman. It makes me very sad because I know how hard he worked and how important he is for us. First Serge Gnabry is out, then he and Leroy Sane are doubts [for Wednesday].’

As Tuchel alluded to, Bayern are also set to be without another winger in Serge Gnabry.

Gnabry scored against his former club Arsenal but was then taken off in the 70th minute having suffered a hamstring problem.

Bayern confirmed Gnabry’s absence in an official statement: ‘FC Bayern must do without Serge Gnabry for the time being,’ the club’s statement read.

‘The winger suffered a muscle strain in his left hamstring in the 2-2 draw at Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final first leg, as confirmed by a scan by the FC Bayern medical department.’

Another winger, Leroy Sane, has been struggling with a pubic bone irritation, which meant that he didn’t feature against Koln. However, Sane expressed hope that he could feature against Arsenal, telling BILD: ‘I hope so. It should work.’

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was rested against Koln after recently returning from an adductor injury but he should be able to play against Arsenal.

Commenting on Coman’s injury, Thomas Muller stated that Bayern have had to cope with injury problems at this stage of the season before, such as when Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben were sidelined.

Muller told Sky: ‘It’s not the first time in my time here that we lost important players towards the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Champions League, that was the case with Rib [Ribéry] and Rob [Robben] from time to time’.

Man City agree personal terms with “elegant” £150,000-a-week target

The Cityzens have made a breakthrough.

Manchester City were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw against Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League tie in Spain on Tuesday night.

The Cityzens are still competing to land the treble for the second season in succession, as they eye the Premier League and the FA Cup alongside Europe’s major prize.

Despite their continued success on the pitch, Pep Guardiola’s side are already looking at possible targets to improve their playing squad in the upcoming summer transfer window.

City are reportedly eyeing up a swoop to sign a current Premier League star to bolster the Spanish manager’s options in the middle of the park.

Man City agree personal terms with Premier League magician
According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Manchester City have now reached an agreement on personal terms with West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta.

The reporter claims that the Cityzens have ironed out a long-term contract, including the exact duration of the deal and the salary included, with the Brazil international ahead of the summer.

However, Aouna adds that there have not been any talks between the two clubs at this moment in time, which means that a fee has not been agreed.

The post states that Paqueta’s agents are now expecting City and the Hammers to hold negotiations over a deal for the Brazilian wizard at the end of the season, although it does not reveal how much the London-based outfit are set to demand for their star performer.

An agreement on personal terms with the former Lyon maestro does, however, indicate that they already have the green light on the player’s side, which could play into their hands in transfer talks.

West Ham would then know that they have someone who wants to move on this summer, and they may not want to keep an unhappy and unsettled player if City offer a significant fee to secure his services.

Lucas Paqueta’s Premier League form
With his combative and creative performances, the 26-year-old whiz has showcased his quality as an all-round midfielder in the Premier League for the Hammers this season.

Paqueta currently ranks within the top 6% of attacking midfielders in the division for tackles (2.60) per 90, and the top 11% for interceptions (0.77) per 90, which speaks to how hard he works out of possession to win the ball back for his team.

As you can see in the table above, the £150k-per-week star has also provided attacking quality as both a scorer and a creator of goals from midfield.

Paqueta, who has been described as “elegant” by U23 scout Antonio Mango, ranks within the top 7% of Premier League attacking midfielders for progressive passes (6.53) per 90 this season, which shows that he is constantly looking to play forward and progress play for his team.

Meanwhile, Matheus Nunes ranks within the bottom 45% of midfielders in the division with 4.14 progressive passes for City, and has produced zero goals and two assists in 15 games.

This suggests that the potential is there for Paqueta to arrive as an upgrade on Nunes as a rotation option for Guardiola in midfield, which may be why he has been targeted ahead of the summer window.

Foden will miss City’s start to the season. AFP
Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden is set to miss the first month of the Premier League season due to a foot injury he sustained at Euro 2020.

The 21-year-old missed England’s final defeat to Italy due to the problem and is unlikely to feature before September’s international break. City open their Premier League defence away to Tottenham on Sunday with Foden also set to miss clashes against Norwich and Arsenal.

“It is still a little bit sore,” Foden told Sky Sports. “It was such a shame to do it just before the Euro final. It was really unfortunate but I am working hard in the gym and hopefully I can get back as soon as possible. I would say it will be around three to four weeks. Hopefully it flies by and I can just get back on the pitch.”

Foden’s injury will means he will have to wait to line up alongside international teammate Jack Grealish, who became the first ever £100 million English player last week after sealing a move from Aston Villa.

“I am really happy he has signed here and hopefully I can just get back playing with him and enjoy my football,” added Foden. “He’s fearless on the ball and can change a game on his own. He’s a really special player for us and he’s going to be key for us.”

City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne is also set to miss the start of the Premier League season with the ankle ligament injury he sustained on international duty with Belgium at Euro 2020.

VIDEO: Xabi Alonso says Leverkusen’s main focus is on West Ham

Leverkusen are unbeaten in 41 matches this season. DUGOUT
Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso did not want to talk about the possible early championship win at the weekend on his press conference ahead of the quarter-final against West Ham United and stressed that all the focus was on the Europa League game.

Bayer Leverkusen head into Thursday’s home first leg against West Ham in the Europa League quarter-finals unbeaten in 41 matches this season, with 36 wins and five draws.

Despite having his side on course for a first Bundesliga title alongside qualifying for the German Cup final, Alonso said his team’s good work would come to nought in Europe should they fail to beat West Ham.

“The Europa League is just two legs. It’s make or break. We want to give ourselves a good starting point for the second leg in London next week. It won’t be easy because West Ham have a fantastic team, but these are exactly the games we look forward to. We want to test ourselves against top teams,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
